Description

Role
The University of Surrey are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow wishing to advance their career in a research-driven, interdisciplinary environment, to work on a short-term secondment within the AI for Net Zero funded project on digitalising anaerobic digestion.

This is a short-term, flexible role that can be adjusted based on the candidates interest.
We plan to offer 2 part-time or full-time roles for 3-8 months.
£19.24 - £23.64 per hour - depending on experience.

Duties and responsibilities
The short-term, flexible role will work with the research team including several industrial partners, funded by the UKRI’s ‘artificial intelligence research to enable UK's net zero target’.

They will undertake a range of research activities associated with the ‘Artificial Intelligence Enabling Future Optimal Flexible Biogas Production for Net-Zero’ project led by Dr Michael Short.
The role will be flexible enough to utilise the strengths of the candidate, while also allowing them the space to pursue their own interests for developing their skills within the team.
The role is open to those interested in life cycle assessment, bioprocesses, artificial intelligence, bioenergy, process control, optimisation, bioinformatics, and/or policy.

Skills and experience

Ideally, the individual will be either:

- currently working in industry in the bioenergy, AI, or process control field and looking to learn new skills and contribute to the research project

- a Research Fellow working in areas of bioenergy, AI, process control, or optimisation at another institution that would like to experience working in a new field and learning and contributing to the project.

You should be familiar with any of the following: artificial intelligence, process modelling, process control, bioinformatics, or the bioenergy field broadly and be open to learning new skills and working in a diverse and multi-disciplinary team to solve real-world research challenges.

You should be proactive and a good communicator.
