Description

Role

In this varied role, you will work across University functions to assist in driving forward the Carbon Management Plan. This will be an opportunity to enhance and harness your skills working with a professional team that will help you develop your environmental knowledge and with the Environmental and Sustainability Team.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work on the SDG Accord and attend the University Environmental Steering Group
  • Create engaging content for our social media channels such as capturing short videos and clips
  • Videos for Instragram stories that inspires student to reduce their plastic consumption on and off campus
  • Help work on the university’s Carbon Reduction Plan
  • Work on the university’s waste strategy
  • Run communications campaigns aimed at students on social media to raise awareness of the SDGs and other green initiatives
  • Attend environmental steer group once a term to feed in student perspective on environmental sustainability issues
  • Work with student union to promote sustainable behaviour at union events and advocate for sustainable solutions on campus
  • Organise at least one event during academic year on campus to promote the SDGs or another relevant sustainability initiative (Ie. COP or Earth Day)
  • Promote environmental sustainability in your subject area and provide student perspective insight on how environmental sustainability is engaged with in your department and by fellow students

Skills and experience

Essentials (minimum x6 core competencies)

  • Knowledge/desire to work to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 as well as their application in the Higher Education Sector
  • Experience of engagement with relevant external bodies for networking and sharing of best practice
  • Be proficient in the use of Word, Excel and Outlook for writing reports, analysing data and time/project management
  • Ability to work in a reliable, organised, conscientious and methodical manner, following process and where necessary on own initiative
  • Ability to use skill, judgment and persistence to solve problems and be able to reach solutions by discussions with others
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support colleagues in deliver the wider team / Departmental objectives

Desirable
