Role

We are looking for EGIS students at Heriot-Watt University to become social media ambassadors.
 
Heriot-Watt University is seeking passionate and imaginative content creators who have a talent for producing and starring in captivating videos to join our Student Social Media Ambassador programme for this academic semester. If you are a current student at Heriot-Watt University and are passionate about social media, creative, and enthusiastic about promoting Heriot-Watt, we encourage you to apply for this exciting role.
 
We are looking for students from specific schools to become social media ambassadors to create content more specific to the school they’re in as well as managing School social media channels, replying to messages/comments and scheduling posts.
We are particularly keen to hear from students from EGIS.
 
We welcome applications from both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

If you are interested in one of these roles, please let us know in your application what school you are in. These student social media ambassadors will work at minimum 2 hours per week helping to create content for their own school and the university’s main social media accounts.

Duties and responsibilities
Strong communication skills are important as the roles will include working closely with the Marketing and Communications team on a hybrid basis. The job includes creating content for the University’s digital channels and sharing a unique perspective into student and campus life here at Heriot-Watt for prospective students as well as advice and guidance for current students. The primary focus will be short-form video/reel styled content. Social media ambassadors will also manage school social media channels, replying to messages/comments and scheduling posts. 

 
It is preferred that the post holder will be comfortable on camera, and that they have experience in filming and editing their own footage to a high-quality standard. 
 
They will also be proactive in creating and posting content aligned with the University and its schools. Additionally, you will be expected to repost content from other sources where relevant

Skills and experience

  • To create and produce engaging user generated content for all our digital channels. 
  • Have a good background knowledge of our social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter & TikTok. 
  • Be comfortable on camera. 
  • Be able to film and edit videos to a high-quality standard. 
  • Strong communications skills. 
  • The ability to effectively manage workloads. 
  • Ability to create a range of different styles of video. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own time

Additional information
All Student Social Media Ambassadors must have access to a mobile phone with internet connection, have required social media apps downloaded, as well as the facility to record videos on their mobile phone.

 
The role is flexible to fit around your studies and ambassadors will be paid for the hours taken to create content. The hours and days you work can be discussed with the Marketing team. The role will mainly take place Monday to Friday. However, occasional weekend working may be requested to attend events to capture content for social media.
