Description

Role
We’re excited to be opening applications for our 2024 Software Engineering Internship, beginning in May 2024. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience as you contribute to “real-world” projects and grow your skillset. You will be one of three Software Engineer Interns, providing you with an exciting chance to gain - and provide - peer support as you learn over the course of the nine month internship.

About AwazeWe’re home to some of the world’s most trusted travel brands, including cottages.com, Hoseasons, James Villa Holidays and Novasol (to name just a few!). Together, these brands make us the largest managed vacation rental business in the world. We’re proud to have over 100,000 properties in our portfolio, in 25 countries across Europe, giving our guests the choice of a fantastic range of properties and taking over 1.5 million bookings each year.

We’re in a genuinely exciting period of growth, with one simple vision – to delight our owners and guests.

Duties and responsibilities
As one of three Software Engineering interns within our Technology team, you will quickly become an integral part of our development teams, working as part of our APEx, OneSearch or Seach & Explore teams. You’ll remain in the team throughout your time with us, giving you a chance to really hone your skills and build your knowledge. Our nine month long internship will provide you with an invaluable chance to gain industry experience, grow your portfolio and make a meaningful contribution to our ongoing engineering work.

What you’ll be doing
We know it’s cliché, but we work in an environment where no two days are the same (genuinely!). Working part of a pan-European team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the UK and Denmark, with the opportunity to develop, test and maintain software solutions. Our teams use an array of programming languages, including Java, Typescript, Node, C# etc. Your experience in some of these languages would be ideal, but not a deal breaker. What's more important is your aptitude to learn and develop. You'll be pairing with some of our best and brightest, so don't worry about trying something new! You’ll be treated as a fully-fledged member of the team, so you’ll be expected to participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback, whilst also getting regular feedback on your own coding.

Skills and experience
We’re a team full of energy and with a passion for what we do, so it’s key that you’re enthusiastic, driven and keen to learn. What else are we looking for?

You've had some exposure to coding/software development, but this could be through degree studies, a coding bootcamp or course, or a year in industry. You’ve got some experience in Java, Typescript, Node, C#
You’re a keen problem solverYou enjoy working in a team and can communicate effectively
We don’t believe in standing still (we work in travel, after all), but instead think that everyone should be learning, all the time.
We will support you to grow your skillset over your time with us

Additional information
What else do you need to know?

This nine month internship commences in May 2024 and is based from our office in Central Manchester. We work on a hybrid basis, so you’d be expected to be in the office around 2-3 days per week, though if you want to be in more frequently that’s fine too!
To be considered, please apply via our website. If you can include a code sample or project portfolio showcasing your skills, that would be great!
We want to make the application process as stress-free as possible, so typically we’ll have an informal chat with you on the phone, followed by a comprehensive interview over Teams, where you’ll have a chance to find out a bit more about the exciting things we’re doing (and maybe tell us what we’re doing wrong). We want to hear about your favourite (and least favourite) projects, what makes you tick and why. Then, we’d love to show you “our place” so would look to meet you for an informal session in our office.

We believe in equal opportunities and aim to create a team that is representative of our society, knowing that embracing differences enhances the capabilities of our business and makes for a happy place to work. We are proud to recognise and celebrate that we have a diverse culture where employees are accepted for who they are regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or ability.
