Role

As a Student Experience Consultant, you will have the opportunity to shape our Careers and Enterprise service and share your perspective across the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Social Sciences. The scheme will provide an opportunity for students who identify as Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and other Minority Ethnic backgrounds to play a crucial role in enhancing the student experience so that all students feel represented and seen and in doing so, shape the employability aspect of their Course, Faculty and across the University and enhance the student experience and graduate outcomes.

Our Student Experience Consultants will be passionate and interested in:• Sharing their views and experiences to have a positive impact• Promoting change in the University• Helping shape and design an employability strategy that ensures it reflects every student• Working collaboratively alongside members of staff as equal partners• Championing the voices of all students 

The roles will be flexible and part time and help students to develop a range of skills such as critical thinking, presentation, and self-confidence.

Duties and responsibilities

Student Experience Consultants you will work as part of a team of students, alongside the Academic Strategic Lead: Student Retention, Inclusion and Success and the Academic Strategic Lead for Closing our Gap/ Faculty Directors of Learning and Teaching or the Director of Student Wellbeing and Sustainability Development.

They may work with academic and professional services colleagues, students and student reps and where directed, facilitate, and conduct a service review of the university central employability support reflecting on their learning and lived experiences. 

Their work will be part of our initiatives to reduce the degree awarding gap and improve student inclusion, belonging and wellbeing and embed sustainability. Student Experience Consultants will advise academic and professional services on how to prepare students from diverse backgrounds and experiences for Graduate employment. Their focus will include strategies for career development and how that fits in within and beyond the curriculum. This approach ensures that the Student Experience Consultants not only address inclusivity within the academic but also actively contribute to the employability and career success of Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and other Minority Ethnic backgrounds students.

Through this work you will be capturing diverse voices and perspectives, shaping the very heart of CCCU and will be trained and supported through all aspects of the consultant role. We just want you to bring your authentic self and your passion for inclusion and social justice to this role. 

As this is part of a pilot that we are hoping to establish across CCCU more widely, you will be asked to participate in a series of evaluation processes to aid the faculty in deepening our understanding of the impact of student curriculum partners in shaping the student experience. This will take the following form an initial focus group with all student consultants to discuss the role of a consultant, short reflective submissions on progress and 1-2-1 conversational style interviews on your experience as a consultant.
