Role
The Division of Biomedical Services, University of Leicester is a state-of-the-art small animal facility that support biomedical and translation research in the College of Life Sciences. The Division is seeking an Animal Caretaker/Technician to be involved in caring for the animals carrying out care and welfare duties.
The facility primarily consists of rodents and fish and carries a wide variety of interesting pre-clinical work including breeding of genetically modified animals, testing of new treatments for human diseases, surgical work, gene editing and embryo/sperm cryopreservation.

Duties and responsibilities
• Carry out animal care and welfare duties in accordance with legislative needs:
- Daily observation of various species; their watering, feeding and general husbandry
- Thoroughly health check animals and report any concerns
- Clean auxiliary equipment and facilities
- Maintain accurate records
• When required work in the ancillary area:
- Scrape cages and empty bottles
- Prepare cages – bedding and environmental enrichment

Skills and experience
Some prior work experience with small animals is necessary, as well as a caring and empathetic nature. Must be able to adhere to basic health and safety rules and regulations, as well as being able to maintain accurate records.
