Role
The University of Northampton are looking for a caretaker to support the existing team.

The role is to provide day to day support with the preparation of halls of residences buildings/facilities in line with staff and student requirements to meet the Service Level Agreement.

Duties and responsibilities
• To complete caretaking and porterage tasks generated by the Facilities Helpdesk, scheduling tasks to meet priority deadlines and liaising with the appropriate teams to ensure minimal disruption is caused to building users.

• To ensure that all information relating to Facilities Helpdesk jobs is accurately recorded, that jobs are efficiently managed through the system, and additional jobs are identified as required.

• To carry out periodic building and general site checks to identify and record defects, and report in liaison with the UON policies and procedures.

• Liaise with R&RCS external Contractors when required i.e laundry services, sanitary waste services, cleaning & janitorial supplier, furniture maintenance provider.

• To maintain in conjunction with the Line supervisor suitable levels of cleaning and janitorial supplies and materials for the effective discharge of cleaning activities at the University of Northampton halls of residences.

• The post holder will always ensure that their work is to the highest quality and that all work is undertaken in accordance with Statutory Regulations and current Health & Safety Legislation.

• To undertake any training courses deemed beneficial by the Line supervisor, to enhance the skills required to carry out multiple caretaking and specialist cleaning tasks to a high-quality standard.

• Working to Standard operating procedures.

• Collection from a secure place and delivery of letters and parcels into student’s lockers.

• Portering within buildings and from site-to-site various accommodation items.

• To undertake daily vehicle checks, promptly reporting any vehicle defects to ensure its legality.

• To ensure display boards of residential buildings have all relevant comms for student notices and replaced every semester.

• To undertake deep cleans and fully support summer works and turn around and provide support services for all UON scheduled commercial and academic events.

• To undertake room inspections, report of defects and damages after students vacation of rooms and facilities and be able to compile/collate reports and submit to helpdesk appropriately in a timely manner.

• To deputise for Facilities Supervisor in absence period and lead the team.

• The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably requested by the Facilities Supervisor.

• The post holder will be responsible and accountable for ensuring all employment legislative requirements are adhered to including equality and diversity and health and safety issues.

• The job description may be altered at any time in the future in line with the level of the post to meet changing institutional requirements, but only in full consultation with the post holder.

• Hold a UK driving licence.

• The post holder will be required to have a level of physical fitness to carry out the post efficiently.

• The post holder will be required to work across all of UON residential buildings and travel to any other areas as requested by Facilities Supervisor i.e in the central Northampton area and duties will not necessarily be limited to a single place of work.

Skills and experience
Able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills to a standard appropriate to post.

Have a full UK driving licence.

Able to work accurately and safely.

Experience in caretaking/porterage tasks.

Experience of working in occupied residential buildings understanding not to cause disruption.

Smart phone/tablet literate.

Experience in meeting deadlines & flexibility to meet the needs to UON operations.

Committed to UON and role-based mandatory training & development programme i.e first aid, fire warden, health and safety and BICSc qualification levels

Good interpersonal skills and thorough understanding of excellent customer service and positive student experience.

Ability to adapt to organisational change.

Able to work with minimal supervision and on own initiative, either in a team or alone.

Demonstrate an appropriate level of physical fitness to enable the effective performance of duties.

Able to work under pressure and manage conflicting demands.

To be adaptable, conscientious and to be a good team member.

Location
Waterside Campus and St Johns halls of residence.
