Role
African Youth Arise (AYA) require an Experienced Seasonal Lead Youth Worker to join their existing team on an average of 5-10 hours a week including 2 weekends and 2 evenings a week during term time with additional hours during school holidays

The main aim of the role is to develop relationships with and support the young people partaking in the programmes run by the organisation.

Duties and responsibilities
• Equipping and empowering young people with tools and strategies that will help them deal with current and future challenges.

• Creating a safe space for young people by promoting clear and open communication whilst establishing healthy and appropriate boundaries.

• Recognising the talents, gifts and strengths of the young people and encouraging them to explore or further develop these skills.

• Offering the young people assistance and reassurance when appropriate as well as being an active listener.

• Exposing young people to new opportunities and experiences that they will benefit from.

• Designing and Facilitating workshops for our empowerment programme.

Skills and experience
• Lead and support physical and online fortnightly workshops with a group young people.

• Facilitate and support with planning engaging activities.

• Lead regular staff meetings.

• Work within a team to achieve the common goal.

•To organise our annual residential weekends

• To have bio weekly check-ins with young people online.

• To keep up with general admin tasks. (e.g., tracking young person’s progress).

• ?Engage with parents of members on a regular basis

• To have a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by young people of African descent in the UK diaspora.

• To be able to provide emotional, social, and practical support within guidelines.

• To have self-awareness of one’s boundaries and to have the ability to set limits with others.

Additional information
• A full, clean driving license is essential.

• An enhanced DBS certificate is required for this role. We will arrange and cover the cost of this if necessary.
