Role
The successful candidate will join a team that designs, installs, supports, and
maintains fixed AV equipment in over 500 spaces across the University.
The primary focus of this role is to support, maintain, and resolve any issues
reported related to AV systems on-site. The candidate will help staff understand
how to use the AV and respond to high-priority callouts in teaching spaces.
They will investigate problems and troubleshoot faults, checking all aspects of
the AV installation, including physical wiring, network settings, device
configurations, replacing faulty hardware, functional tests, and system checks.


The role is full time working 37 hours per week and is fully campus based.

The start date is as soon as possible with an expected end date of 25/07/2024.

The role's aim is to help ensure a high level of availability and usability of these facilities for staff and students to help deliver a great end user experience.
We have a responsibility for AV systems across campus.

The role investigates potential issues with our installs end to end, checking everything from physical wiring, to network settings, to Digital Sound Processor configurations or replacing faulty hardware.

Duties and responsibilities
* Provide an effective and responsive incident and request management support
service for facilities where A/V equipment is installed, in line with the requirements
of departmental SLAs.

* Assist in the provision of and induction/training of DMU staff in the use of A/V equipment installed in teaching spaces.

* Troubleshoot faulty A/V equipment and facilitate any remedial steps identified,
such as making configuring changes, replacing hardware or performing further
testing.

* Use range of web-based dashboards and monitoring tools to remotely investigate problems or issues with installed A/V equipment attached to DMU’s network and help determine a method of resolution.

* Assist with regular stock checks of the A/V equipment within the A/V spaces and
check against the Asset Register, escalating discrepancies to the A/V Services Team Leader.

* Undertake maintenance and repair of A/V equipment.

* Ensure the ITMS Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is kept accurate and up-to-date.

* Ensure the completion of tasks as allocated by line management and referred to by the ITMS Service Desk in accordance with agreed priorities and service levels.

* Maintain up-to-date records on progress.

* To assist in the development of a culture
based on Continual Service Improvement.

* Form alliances and relationships with key stakeholders across the University to
enable effective delivery of services, raising the profile of ITMS and ensuring clear, effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

* Ensure compliance with the University’s standards for information systems, security
and technology in line with the relevant legislation and audit requirements.

* Remain innovative and stay abreast of all relevant industry and technological
developments in the market place and provide advice to Management on how to take advantage of these to support the development of initiatives that deliver the
University’s objectives.

* Represent ITMS and the University on internal and external groups as appropriate.

* Ensure compliance with DMU Health & Safety policy as it applies to work areas and activities including the production of risk assessments, safe operating procedures
and other documentation that is up to date and available for all users.

Skills and experience
The following are the key areas of expertise and experience that the ideal
candidate for this role should possess:
- Good knowledge of AV control systems (Extron & Crestron)
- Knowledge of AV wiring, including balanced/unbalanced/hot/cold audio,
RS232, RJ45, DTP/HDBT, DM, terminating, and soldering
- Familiarity with HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB standards
- Understanding of EDIDs and HDCP
- Ability to read and interpret AV schematics and technical drawings
- Knowledge of video/audio transmission and routing
- Proficient in IT networking, including subnets and VLANs
- Familiarity with Office 365 suite, including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
- Strong troubleshooting skills in both IT and AV
- Excellent interpersonal skills
