Role
University College Birmingham is looking to recruit an accommodation assistant at The Maltings to join their friendly and enthusiastic accommodation team.
The role requires primarily on-site work with few office-based jobs to assist The accommodation officers with the day to day running of the site.
Due to the nature of the role, a successful applicant must be able to complete physical work such as lifting moderately heavy items and walking up and down lots of stairs. Remedial cleaning duties will also be needed at times to assist our cleaning team.

Duties and responsibilities
• Essential maintenance, including tripped electrics, changing lightbulbs, and preventing leaks/ floods.
• Carrying out kitchen inspection in occupied flats
• Answering phone calls and dealing with student queries in a professional manner
• Essential office admin work includes visitor passes, signing in parcels, and completing lock up.
• Kitting of rooms and set up to a standard as shown by management
• Provide exceptional tours of the site when necessary to staff, students, and guests
• Physical lifting of boxes and moving mattresses across the site
• Essential cleaning works to assist our cleaning team, including removing perishable items from kitchens and rubbish during intake periods and throughout the summer.
• Handling of master keys and student's room keys
• Maintaining The Maltings site with daily site patrols- reporting any problems to management
• Any other duties commensurate to the nature and Grade of the post.

Skills and experience
A member of the accommodation team will train you in all aspects of the job; however, we would like someone with an awareness of health & safety measures, plenty of enthusiasm and are ready to work in a busy environment. You must be proactive and have a strong sense of initiative when undertaking daily tasks. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; they will be keen to learn about the University and the different departments we offer to broaden students' experiences.
You must be available to work full-time during the summer break and be capable of undertaking physical work.
Dress code: Casual and comfortable clothing as some degree of physical labour is involved. No open-toe footwear or heels. A staff badge and university branded hoodie will be provided as part of the role.

Additional information
Term Time: Up to 20hrs per week – Shifts: 11am-7pm or 1pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-4pm on weekends.
Summer: Monday – Friday: 9 am-5 pm (37 hours per week), Plus 1 in every 4 weekends 10am-2pm (42.5 hrs per work).
Occasional additional shifts will be required on weekends to cover open days.
