Description

We are looking to recruit a General Counsel/In-House Legal Counsel on a full time basis working 37.5 hours per week, working hours 9:00-17:30.

The role is temp to perm.

Our client is a small company that has a very prestigious client list including Siemens Gamesa, Vodafone, UK Ministry of Defence (Navy, Marines, RAF) and the European Space Agency among others. They have an R&D focus, particularly in the areas of unmanned air, ground, sea and subsea vehicles, control systems, sensors and digital AI/ML.

With continued expansion of the company, we they are looking to bring in exceptional individuals who can work through the complete lifecycle of projects. The different technology areas that they work in have evolving legal, regulatory and compliance frameworks that we will need to abide by in the UK and elsewhere.
You’ll have the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company where you’ll be involved in interesting and diverse projects. This role supports our operations by developing our existing in-house legal department. This role will require the individual to spend time providing legal counsel and legal support regarding corporate and commercial matters as well as technology-based law for emerging systems and their effects as well as compliance related and defence related laws. This may include permission to operate, data collection and privacy, reporting, humanitarian, data access, import/export, compliance and common business-related activities.

• Candidate must be a UK fully qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years PQE.
• Candidate ideally should have a background in or a working knowledge of laws relating to technology and/or defence law as well as awareness of international law.
• Candidate must be able to help build and develop a team.
• Have a proven track record in their career to date and previous experience / training.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commercial / business outlook to their work.
• Managing the company's IP portfolio.
• Experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiations. Strong head for strategic thinking – you are a problem solver who can help our business succeed.
• Ability to speak more than one language would be advantageous (European).
• Well-travelled and good overall cultural knowledge.
• Experience supervising trainees would be advantageous.
• Candidate must be willing to supervise a trainee.

Although we envisage that candidates a minimum of 4 years PQE and will have the relevant skills / knowledge for this position, this has been given as an approximate guide for applicants and we are happy to consider the applications of candidates who meet the majority of the requirements if all are not met.
You will be required to work from the clients office Monday-Wednesday and from home Thursday and Friday unless agreed otherwise by your Line Manager or Managing Director.
