Following the death of George Floyd in May 2020, the Black Lives Matter movement has increased public consciousness of the continued inequalities that Black people face within the UK. This has encouraged us to reflect on the action that the University can take in addressing the inequalities that exist both inside and outside of LJMU. The University launched a Black Lives Matter microsite, developed in partnership with JMSU and some black academic staff, which brings together a range of materials from inside and outside of LJMU to shine a light on the issues arising from the Black Lives Matter campaign and to help support our students, staff and those in the Liverpool Black community. The microsite offers useful resources that has and will continue to support the academic community to engage with their students to support them in becoming better informed about the historical context of this movement.

The Microsite has been a useful resource for staff and students. The plan is to review the content of the website, update it with more relevant information and also use it to tell the story of activities taking place within LJMU around race equality.

In addition to the above activity, we would also like the intern to assist with creating an Equality and Diversity resource section for staff within Canvas. These resources may take the form of embedded digital content or Canvas pages. If possible the interactive digital capabilities on Canvas could also be leveraged.

  • Ability or some experience of working with Canvas or other digital platforms for developing digital media and documentation to support raising awareness
  • Experience or ability to use graphic design or other media authoring tools
  • Ability to work remotely and as part of a team
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Good writing skills

If you are looking to broaden your experience to help you as you plan to engage the world of work, then this opportunity is for you.

As part of our positive action programme, we are looking to increase number of students from the BAME communities applying for job opportunities and we would love to hear from you.
